March 22-24, 2016

Day 1

  • Take train to city centre
  • Explore area around train station/hostel (Paquis)
  • Take tram to other side of town (Hollande/Bourg de Four)
    • Free transit passes for tourists so make sure to pick one up from your hotel/hostel
  • University of Geneva and Reformation Wall
  • Climb up to old town and the famous church
  • Walk around, along the bridge back to Paquis
  • Dinner at Buvette des Bains – great place for fondue
    • Bread, smoked meat, pickles and pickled onions, and lots of cheese fondue

Day 2

  • Red Cross Museum (near UN, Botanical Gardens, in Secheron)
    • One of the not free museums in the city but features a great exhibit – very artistic and very informative
  • Plainpalais – a huge open space that was set up for a fair/carnival when I was there, with play areas and skate parks
  • Burgers under the sun for lunch – got take out and then sat at the Reformation Wall with other university students
  • Botanical Gardens (went a bit back and forth that day but even so it didn’t take long)
    • Huge, includes lots of animals actually (flamingoes, sheep, peacocks, you name it)
  • Walk alongside lake back to Old Town for dinner at Chez Ma Cousine (great little restaurant with three locations in Geneva that sells chicken)
    • Very windy and gusty and huge, lapping waves that made the lake feel like an ocean but even so, very beautiful with backdrop of mountains

Day 3

  • Manor: department store with great chocolate offerings as well as a very fancy grocery store at bottom floor and many, many food options
  • Favarger: chocolate store with incredible handmade selection as well as bar chocolate, not too expensive either
  • Both of these are near an incredibly beautiful boardwalk (not a long stretch – it’s more of a pier) with views of another bridge and the lake as well as the city
  • Bus to airport
