- Kakawa Chocolate House – the chocolate ice cream is so rich just the thought of it brings me joy, and then we tried a range of their plain chocolates and truffles… I want to go back to stock up before we leave… they have multiple locations and the one we went to was a smaller shop; store people mentioned that there’s a bigger location where they also have their kitchens
- Clafoutis – a French bakery where the people speak French! croissant looked disappointing, weirdly enough, BUT the quiche and other pastries are delicious; we haven’t gotten to the peach tart yet but my discerning eye tells me we will not be disappointed
- Iconik Coffee Roasters – their Lupe location is in what looks like an old church and is very eclectic; they’re known for good coffee and also we tried one of their seasonal rotations which was a traditional (new?) mexican beverage with corn and cocoa and anise (not my cup of tea but it was nice to be able to try something new)
- Opuntia Cafe – best described as the perfect, quintessential SF cafe with toasts, bowls and tea/coffee; we had a grilled cheese sandwich and an avocado toast, and both were very well executed. we also got their rice pudding that they make with koshihikari rice. the cafe setting itself is so beautiful, i want to come back to go there and sit down with a book. oh – one last thought – we also were hyped to try their sour dough chocolate chip cookie but found it to be rather ordinary
- For more “local” (New Mexican) cuisine, we tried a handful of places (Cafe Pasqual was good!) but none of the top rated were actually open (Palacio Cafe in particular)
